Posted by Sara Bachez on Sep 25, 2020 2:00:00 PM

Business officers and other business department staff play a key role in the charter school petition and renewal processes and in fulfilling charter authorizer oversight functions and responsibilities.

Following a series of charter school reform-related efforts over the past two years, significant changes were made to the Charter Schools Act by Assembly Bill (AB) 1505 in multiple areas, including the charter petition process, charter renewals and related appeals.

To learn how we got here with charter school reform, we have partnered with Attorney William Schuetz, Jr., of Dannis Woliver Kelley, to present this recorded webinar in our summer series, in which we:

  • Discuss some of the circumstances leading up to AB 1505, including the provisions of SB 126, SB 75 and the State Charter School Task Force; and
  • Provide an overview of the changes implemented by AB 1505 and how they’ll affect your district as an existing authorizer now or in the future.

Local education agencies (LEAs) must prepare for and respond to emergencies, which can come in many forms and occur at any time. As school districts continue to navigate the realities of COVID-19 while transitioning the start of the academic year via distance learning, the state finds itself mitigating the effects of wildfires and power outages created by public safety power shutoffs (PSPSs).

To help you prepare for these emergencies, we have partnered with Keenan & Associates and select school business leaders to present this recorded webinar in our summer series, in which we:

  • Explain preparedness plans and how to evaluate your LEA's plans;
  • Discuss how to implement and communicate your LEA's emergency response plans; and
  • Present the perspectives of two school districts that weathered last year's PSPSs and this year's wildfires.
